Research assistant for academic papers that searches a large paper database, summarizes findings and pulls data from studies into tables.

Elicit is an AI research assistant built around academic papers rather than the open web. You ask a research question and it finds relevant papers, summarizes what they say and lets you chat with papers when full text is available. Its standout feature is the table view: you add columns such as sample size, method or main outcome, and Elicit extracts that detail from each paper so you can compare studies side by side.

Elicit's pricing page, checked on October 24, 2026, says the free Basic plan includes unlimited search across more than 138 million papers, unlimited summaries, unlimited chat with papers that have full text, the ability to view sources behind answers, Zotero import and limited use of its Research Agent and Research Reports. Paid plans add exports to formats such as RIS, BIB, CSV, PDF and DOCX, more extraction columns, a dedicated systematic review workflow that can screen thousands of papers, and more usage. Higher tiers add team collaboration, and the Enterprise plan adds SSO and a promise of no training on your data by default.

The pricing page shows different prices depending on whether you pick the monthly or yearly toggle and which audience view you select, so we do not quote a single figure here. Check elicit.com/pricing for the plan and billing period you want.

Who it suits: graduate students, researchers, clinicians and analysts doing literature reviews, especially anyone who needs to pull the same facts out of many studies. It also helps undergraduates find real papers for an essay instead of relying on a chatbot's memory. Who should look elsewhere: people asking everyday questions about news, products or how to do something, where a web answer engine such as Perplexity is a better fit. As with any summary tool, read the original paper before you cite it, and check that the extracted numbers match the study.
